The Mt. Loafer Elementary School first grade held its annual “Quiet As A Mouse” Day, on Friday, February 24th. 

Friday, February 24th, Mr. Don Applegate's and Miss Beth Duvall's sixth-graders transformed the gym into a poetry cafe.

Sitting at round tables,  sixth graders read original poetry to inspire their peers and parents.  After each reading, students snapped their fingers.

The setting was reminiscent of a coffeehouse.  Instead of drinking coffee, students and parents snacked on cookies and drank chocolate milk after the readings.

Mt. Loafer Elementary teachers want to encourage students to know that there are ways to serve at home, at school, in the community, and in the world.  During the month of March, students will be focused on the circles of service and the many ways and places they can serve. 

To serve their families, teachers are encouraging students to complete chores or work at home. As students complete jobs, they will fill out a form explaining their service.  The student council will read aloud the service students are providing at home. 

I want to congratulate Mrs. DeAnn Grover for being nominated as Mt. Loafer Elementary Teacher of the Year.  Mrs. Grover has been teaching for nineteen years, all in first grade.  She taught for three years prior to having her children and then returned to the classroom the year Mt. Loafer opened its doors to students.  She has been my mentor and friend and some of the most important lessons I have learned about being a great teacher were taught to me by Mrs. Grover.  Thank you for being the “Teacher of the Year” every day of the year.  We love you, Mrs.

Mt. Loafer Elementary teachers and students came dressed up in anything BUT the ordinary on Fashion Disaster Day.  Check out some of the unique attire.

Mt. Loafer Elementary School Kindergarten registration will take place on Tuesday, March 13th from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Please bring an official birth certificate and current updated immunization records for us to make a Xerox copy.  Thank you.

Walking through the cafeteria at Mt. Loafer Elementary School on Friday, February 10th, a visitor might not have felt smarter than a fifth-grader.

The room was filled with experiments for the annual science fair, ranging from which white flower changes color the fastest (the Aster), which fruit fruit flies fly for (bananas are foremost on their flight plan) , and if playing video games affects pain tolerance (a person can tolerate more pain when the mind is involved in a game.)

Mt. Loafer Elementary Fifth and Sixth grade students were delighted to have a visit from Steven Haderlie, a chemistry teacher at Springville High School and an adjunct BYU professor.  Mr. Haderlie is the grandfather of Madison Mantilla, a sixth grade student in Mr. Applegate's class.  Mr. Haderlie’s love of chemistry inspired him to become a high school teacher. “There’s something magical about the world, and chemistry really explains everything,” he said. “My philosophy for teaching chemistry is, chemistry is fun!”  Mt.

Can you imagine what life in school was like a 100 years ago?  Many schools were small; often they had only one room. There was no running water and the heat came from a fireplace behind the teacher's desk. Windows were usually high so that the children could not see out and be distracted! Most of the work was done with chalk on a slate, because books and paper were very expensive.
