STEM stands for the fields of science, technology, engineering and math. Our six graders have been working on some great STEM projects this month.
1. Build a Boat that can hold the most golf balls.... The students were given tinfoil, cardstock, paper clips and tape and they had to work in groups and engineer a boat. Once their boats were completed, we had a contest to see whose was able to hold the most golf balls. The winner held 36! We talked about strategies, volume, and surface area.
2. What Christmas means.....The students were divided into groups and given a box of random supplies. Together they had to talk about what the Christmas season meant to them and work out a plan to either draw, build or create something that represented Christmas to their group. They were only able to use their provided supplies. Once they were finished, the groups presented and explained their final product to the class.
