Please see the following general information regarding reopening of Mt. Loafer Elementary for Fall of 2020.

Face Coverings

*State and Nebo School District guidelines require everyone to wear a face covering when entering the school. Students and faculty are required to wear a face covering at school when physical distancing is not possible. This will be most of the time while at school.

*Parents and guardians will ensure that students have a face covering to wear at school each day. Students will be responsible to appropriately wear a face covering throughout the day.

*Approved face coverings include masks and neck gaiters. These face masks can be washed. Face coverings must be appropriate and not contain any inappropriate print or content. Bandanas may not be used as a face covering at school.Face coverings need to properly cover the nose and mouth.

*If a student loses or forgets a mask the school will provide an emergency, disposable one for them to wear for the day.

*The PTO has purchased and will provide each student with a lanyard to be worn throughout the day around their neck. They will attach their masks to this lanyard so they are not lost or dropped during the day.

Visitors

*All visitors will be required to wear a face covering when entering the building.

*All visitors will be required to sign in the front office when entering the building. This will aide in contact tracing if and when needed.

Cleaning

*Bathrooms, door handles, and other high touch areas of the school will be disinfected several times throughout the day.

*Students will help clean their desk, space, materials, etc. in each class and at the end of each planning time class with an approved disinfectant.

*All classrooms will have a bottle of disinfectant spray and clean towels each day for use in sanitizing.

*All classrooms will have hand sanitizer near the door for students to sanitize their hands upon leaning and entering the classroom.

Physical distancing/signage

*Areas of the school will be marked to help with and promote physical distancing. Hallways will have arrows to help with traffic flow (travel always on the right hand side). Doors will be marked as either “enter” or “exit”. Additional signs will be posted to remind students of physical disancing and proper hygiene.

*Space in classrooms will be utilized to best space students a part.

*We will do our very best to space students in the cafeteria during lunch. Students will also be able to spread out and eat their home lunch out on the NE lawn or in the gym side of the cafeteria (picnic style) during the bad weather days.

*We will provide some plexiglass barriers and some plastic face shields which will

*There will be no large group gatherings such as assemblies, performances, etc. for at least the first term. This will be reevaluated later in the year.

*When students arrive tardy to school they need to come into the front office before going to class. We would prefer parents call ahead of time to excuse their student who will be late to school.

Classrooms

*Upon arrival students will go directly to their classrooms. We ask that no parents escort their students to class to eliminate traffic in our hallways during this time.

*Students will only be allowed in their own classrooms and will not have access to other teachers classrooms. If you are creating a plan for a sibling to pick up a younger brother or sister please make sure this arrangement happens outside of the school.

Backpacks

*Students will be allowed to carry backpacks to class with their needed items. Students should be able to go directly to their coatrooms to place backpacks in them. Please help minimize this by only sending a backpack if you feel it is a necessary item for your student to have.

Bussing

*Students will wear face coverings while waiting for the bus both at the bus stop and in line after school.

*Students will have assigned seats on the bus and will be seated among families to the best of our abilities.

*Students will not be able to ride a bus they are not assigned to. There will be no flexibility in this policy this school year.

*Students waiting in bus lines after school will need to keep hands, feet and items to themselves and face forward while waiting for the bus. Because we cannot feasibly social distance during this time and we are under the 10 minute threshold of time waiting for the bus, we will need students to do their very best with this procedure.

Bell Schedule

*In order to best facilitate physical distancing, sanitization and daily cleaning procedures our bell schedule will be modified. School will begin and end at the same time each day, 9:00am-2:30pm. Kindergarten will follow the previously outlined Monday early release schedule. AM- 9:00-11:15, PM- 12:15-2:30

Drinking fountains

*Students and faculty will not be able to use the bubbler heads on drinking fountains. We are in the process of ordering and installing touchless water bottle fillers on some drinking fountains in the school for student and faculty use.

*Students will be provided a water bottle donated by our PTO for their use at school each day. We will encourage them to take it home and wash it and bring it back. Please help properly label this water bottle or another you choose to send with your child each day.

*Teachers will assist students in filling the water bottles throughout the day.

Lunches and lunch hours

*Students will be on a 10 minute eating rotation in the lunch room. They will sit on assigned class tables where they will eat their lunch and proceed outside before the next age of students enter the lunchroom. There will be two grade levels in the lunchroom at the same time.

*We encourage students eating a home lunch to bring it in a paper sack which can be thrown away. Students eating home lunch will eat out on the NE Lawn on nice weather days where they can socially distance themselves. On bad weather days we will let home lunch students indoor picnic in the gym side of the lunchroom on the floor. Again, we will keep the time to 10 minutes before rotating them out for the next grade level to enter.

Wellness checks

*As noted in Nebo School District’s reopening plan, parents will perform daily wellness checks before their children leave for school. Parents/Guardians will check for the following covid-19 symptoms and will not send their student to school if any symptom has been present within the last two days:

*Fever of 100.4 degrees or greater

*Chills

*Diarrhea

*Cough

*Fatigue

*Runny nose or nasal congestion

*Nausea and vomiting

*Headache

*Sore throat

*Muscle and body aches

*Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

*Recent loss of taste or smell

*Visitors, guests and substitute teachers must have their temperature taken and answer questions regarding covid symptoms. A log will be kept of all visitors, guests and subs. These individuals must wear a face covering while in the school.

*If students display any Covid-19 symptoms while at school, their parents will be contacted to come pick up the student, and the student will wait in a designated area until the parent arrives.

Again, we are excited and looking forward to starting school and having our students back in the building. We appreciate all of the support we receive from our parents and guardians. We want to thank you for your patience and understanding as we have prepared for the start of school this year. Our goal is to provide our students with the best education possible while following the guidelines to keep them healthy and safe. We have an amazing faculty and staff and I want to express my gratitude for their efforts in preparing for the start of school as well. I am looking forward to a great school year!
