Parent Newsletter 8/23/19

Thank you for a great first week of school, we absolutely loved having our grizzlies in our building. There was so much excitement this week as they settled in to the routine of school. Thank you for sharing your most prized possesions with us, we truly love them. This week’s parent newsletter is full of information on arrivals, drop off lanes, Box Tops and so much more. Happy Reading!

Early Arrival for Students:Please note that the school will be accessible to ALL students beginning at 8:00am. We do not provide direct student supervision until 8:30. If your student arrives early we will ask them to play on the playground or sit in the office until appropriate supervision is provided. At 8:30am all students will be allowed to access classrooms or play outside with direct supervision. And as always, we kindly ask kids not to run, play or wander the hallways or other classrooms in our building. Students are our top priority and we want them all the have a great experience each day!

Bus Lane Pick-up/drop-off: Some clarification of where to access your students before or after school. Please be courteous and follow the painted lines on the curbing.

Yellow painted lines = parent pick-up and drop-off zones (North & South ends)

Green painted lines = bus zone (Center East side)

We invite you to drop your student off or pick them up in the correct locations. The flow of traffic though tricky at times is critical to helping students arrive and leave safely. If you choose the North end of the building please pull through from the South end and leave on the North end. This will help us all do our best to get our grizzlies here and home.

Please do not pull in to the green busing zone. Even if you do not see a bus we currently have 7 buses to transport students at Mt. Loafer and it is not an approved area for parents to park or pull through.

We have had some problems with parents parking in the pick up/drop off area. We kindly ask you to please not park in this area before or after school. If you need to get out of your car for any reason we need you to park in a marked parking stall and come in to the school. If there is an empty space in front of you while you are waiting to pick up or drop off your students we also ask that you continue to pull forward, filling the void in space. Please note that the pick up/drop off lane is a single deep lane. The other portion of this lane is for a pull-through only. Do not stop or park in the pull through lane. In keeping to this procedure will help keep the flow of traffic moving along so we do not back up into the street more than necessary. Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe in this particular area before and after school.

Also note that we do not recommend you park on the West side of 250 W unless you walk across the street to retrieve your children at the end of the school day. As you may notice we do not have a marked crosswalk or crossing guard to escort students across 250 W. If you choose to park on this side of the road you will need to get out of your car, cross the street to retrieve your grizzly and escort them back to your car. Thank you for helping us keep our students safe!

School Registration Donations: We want to give a big THANK YOU to all the parents who generously paid your students registration donation this year.  As you may or may not know, these donations are used to fund field trips and activities that go above and beyond the regular classroom experiences. If you did not have a chance to pay a donation please know that you can do this at any time. We have asked for a $25 per student donation if you choose to participate. Again, thank you to those families who have supported the efforts of Mt. Loafer Elementary in this matter.

Reading Calendars: We do a PTO sponsored Reading Incentive Program here at Mt. Loafer. Each month, a reading calendar will be sent home and the information will be on the back. Each grade level is required to read a certain amount of minutes in order to receive a monthly prize from the Grizzly Store.  There will also be a large prize at the end of the year for those students who turn in all eight calendars, (September - April) and meet their reading goal for each of those months. The students love this program, and look forward to going to the "Grizzly Store" each month. So keep an eye out for your student's reading calendar this week, and encourage them to participate!

Vision Screening Volunteers Needed: We are in need of 10 parents to help conduct the vision screening on September 4th. If you can volunteer please email our PTO president Tara Rasmussen: rrasfam [at] gmail.com (rrasfam[at]gmail[dot]com)
