Parent Newsletter 8/30/19

Nebo School District Dress Code: Please help your child choose proper dress attire for the new school year and help your child check his/her clothing before he/she comes to school. Thank you! *please find policies concerning dress code here: https://www.nebo.edu/pubpolicy/J/JDG.pdf

Busing policies: *please find policies concerning transportation here: https://www.nebo.edu/transportation

Also note that It is district policy that students are not allowed to ride any bus except for the bus which that student is assigned to ride.  We have had many questions about students riding buses home with friends after school or to someone else’s home.  Bus drivers are not allowed to permit students to ride on their bus unless that student is already assigned to that bus.  It creates a problem when a student has plans to ride a bus he/she is not assigned to and the teacher is not aware of this until students have been dismissed at the end of the day.  We don’t want to have a student unable to complete the plans that have been made, a student not having a ride home, or a student being sent home without a parent being there.  If there is an important reason that your child needs to ride a bus that he/she is not assigned to and this isn’t a reoccurring situation, please call our school office as early in the day as possible and explain the situation to see if it qualifies for approval to ride the bus.  If it is a reason that qualifies, the appropriate paperwork can be completed to give the student permission to ride the bus for that day. Students must have the appropriate permission/approval paperwork to be allowed on the bus. If your child has an issue that makes riding a bus which he/she is not assigned to a frequent occurrence (more than once), you can call the bus department and request permission for your child to be assigned to this bus as needed.  The bus department can direct you on how to best handle your specific situation.

We have also had several issues with students have waiting until they are at school or until the end of the day to make arrangements to play with friends or go to a friend’s house.  Please understand that teachers do not have phones in their classrooms and there just isn’t enough time at school, or after school, to allow students to call parents and make these kinds of arrangements.  These plans need to be made before coming to school.  We certainly understand that unexpected things happen which require parents to call and give their children important messages concerning plans after school.  We are happy to help with these situations and appreciate your help and understanding with the above problems and situations.  We all want to keep these amazing children safe and need to work together as a team to make this happen.

THANK YOU- Thank you for your continued efforts in keeping our pick up and drop off zones safe both before and after school. As a reminder, please continue to use the pull-through zones as a single lane, do not get out of your cars and watch for both students and parents alike. If you need to park, use a marked parking stall to retrieve your students. We ask that you escort your students across 250 West and do not allow them to cross without adult supervision. Those students riding the buses will not be allowed to have friends ride with them, unless there is an emergency. Again, thank you for your cooperation as we navigate the beginning of a new year and learn the best safety precautions for our grizzlies!

School Lunch Accounts:FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH. If you haven't applied for free and reduced lunches for this school year do it ASAP!!  Students who had been on this program last year and not reapplied for the 2019-2020 school year will not continue to receive these benefits BEGINNING October 1, 2018.

Also, if you had a negative lunch account balance from last school year, are currently negative or foresee your accounts running low please come in to the office to settle up your accounts. If you have questions you may call the lunchroom at any time and we will happily assist you. (801) 423-2705

Student Attendance: Research shows that missing 10 percent of the school, or about 18 days in most school districts, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence. When students improve their attendance rates, they improve their academic prospects and chances for graduating. If your student misses school please call and excuse their absences. As always, please contact us if you need some assistance with your student’s attendance.

Minimal Day:  Monday, Sept. 16th, our students will be dismissed at noon.  This is a time where our teachers will receive important instruction and give them time to work on required assignments from the District.  We so appreciate your support with this valuable day for teachers!

Picture Day:  September 17th will be our Picture Day!  Lifetouch will be taking the pictures for our school!  Packets will be coming home soon with information!

PTO NewsFall/Halloween Carnival: We will have our annual carnival on September 30th! Please mark your calendars and plan to come spend an evening full of outdoor fun with our grizzly family! Our awesome PTO does a great job planning and executing this event. Whether new or returning to Mt. Loafer we are excited to have you come support our PTO fundraiser.  As per tradition each classroom contributes to a themed basket to be auctioned off at the carnival. Without this portion of the fundraiser our PTO does not generate funds to donate to our school. We encourage you to send items related to the assigned theme your classroom has been given. Your room moms will be reaching out to you but feel free to send these items in any time over the next couple of weeks. If you would like to contribute but do not want to shop or collect items you may choose to venmo Mt. Loafer PTO with the teachers name and indicate it is for the basket. Please let our amazing PTO know if you have any questions.
