Emergency Prepardness Day

Submitted by kyle.staheli on

On Monday afternoon, the 5th and 6th grade students were able to be taught from nursing students at UVU. Students learned about CPR and first aid, as well as safe practices when reporting an emergency situation to 911. Students were even able to see a helicopter land on the back field and saw inside of that emergency aircraft. Some even saw them leave on a real emergency call. The 5th and 6th graders were so excited to learn about their community and ways that they can help out in emergency situations. Thanks UVU nursing and the Hiatt family!

Dig Deeper! Candy Grams: This is a must read!

"Alone we can do little, together we can do much." This quote by Helen Keller is exactly how I felt as my tears fell when the teller at the bank gave the final tally of this year's Candy Gram donations. This was the largest amount we had ever collected. All I could think of was how much relief this would provide to one of our own families here at Mt. Loafer struggling with overwhelming life challenges. And to think, it was the culminating effect of one quarter at a time! Add to that, the countless hours of service our 5th graders happily gave in order to make this possible.

4th-6th Grade Innovation competition opportunity

Submitted by sarah.blackhurst on

K12 Student Innovator of the Year is an innovation competition for students in grades 4 - 12. All you have to do to compete is invent a novel (but useful) product, system, or service, and come ready to pitch it to a panel of judges (think of this like a Shark Tank experience). There are 3 categories: elementary (grades 4 - 6), junior high (grades 7 - 9), and high school (grades 10 - 12). Over $6000 in cash prizes will be awarded.

We finished up a great Friendship Week by playing games in our classrooms! Big thank you goes out to Mrs. Peterson planning it. We also had an amazing Story Teller come and teach the students about friendship through the stories she told.

Candy Grams, Friendship, & Service

Submitted by jodi.mckee on

The beloved 5th Grade tradition of sending candy grams is in full swing at Mt. Loafer!  Students can show friendship to one another by sending them a candy gram with a chocolate kiss on it.  Each candy gram cost $0.25.  The proceeds are then given to a family in need in the area.  Our wonderful 5th grade teachers and students pull of this tradition every year.  Smiles have been brought to many faces and many families have been helped!  Thank you 5th grade teachers and students!!!
