*Salem Pond Town Invitational Track Meets. Our 3rd/4thgrade track meet will be Wednesday, April 24th. Our students will compete at SHHS with their peers from the other Salem area schools. Students will board the buses at 9:00am, please be sure they are on time as we need to start the actual meet by 9:30am so we can be back to Mt. Loafer by 2pm. Parents are invited to attend and sit on the grass field on the inside of the track. (see the schedule of events on the Pond Town post on our website). Students need to bring their lunch (if signed up for a home lunch), water bottle, sunscreen and any other appropriate items. If you choose to take your student home we need you to sign them out with their teacher at the track meet. District policy is that we can only release students to their own parents, you may not take another student home with you. We hope to see many of you there!

*Scholastic BOGO Book Fair:  We are excited about our PTO Buy One Get One Free Book Fair this week, with our Parents & Pastries Event at 8:00 am, on the 24th. We hope you will all come out for a doughnut and milk that morning.

Our PTO will also be sponsoring a Penny Wars during the book fair, Each penny is worth one point and counts “positively” toward a grade’s point total; each silver coin or dollar bill gets points based on its value (a nickel is worth five points, a dime is worth 10, etc.), but counts “negatively” toward other grades’ totals. So in a competition between grade levels, students who want their grade to win will place pennies into their own buckets and place nickels, dimes, quarters, or dollar bills into other classrooms’ buckets. May the best grade level win and thank you to our PTO for sponsoring this activity.

We also have the need for volunteers at the book fair. If you have a couple of hours to give this week please contact Mandi Ellsworth (aloha.mandi [at] mac.com) and let her know your availability!

One last reminder that there will now be sales tax charged with each purchase.  We want to let you know that so you can be prepared when coming to the Book Fair! Thanks so much for your support of our school!

*Each spring, some parents like to provide input for a specific teacher or special student placement consideration for the following school year.  Although this practice is not encouraged, I recognize the desire many parents have to be involved in this aspect of their child’s education. If you have an extreme circumstance or feel very passionately about your student’s placement for the 2019-2020 school year our window for such will be May 13-17th. In order to provide input you must come in to the school and fill out a form. These forms cannot be taken from the office and no forms will be accepted after the 17th. Absolutely no input will be taken after this date and no emailed input will be considered as well. On the form you will sign that you acknowledge that input will be considered but not guaranteed in making the lists. This is your consent and understanding that creating classes for 800 students is an undertaking and one we do not take lightly. Many hours of consideration and thought are poured into student placement and all factors taken in to account. I thank you in advance for helping make this input window one of support so that all students at Mt. Loafer have a wonderful experience in the years to come.
