Read Me A Story!

Submitted by angela.killian on

In Mrs. Grovers’ classroom, a small group of students are seated around a table. Mrs. Grover is seated with them. She appears to be simply watching them read a story. But there’s a powerful strategy at work here. It's called guided reading.

The main goal of guided reading is to foster confidence, proficiency, and foster a love for reading.  Mrs. Grover has met that goal.  Look at the independent readers in her classroom!

Can You Convince Me?

Mrs. Turner's students are not intimidated when writing a persuasive essay.  They can write an essay with skill and knowledge.  Fourth graders wrote persuasive essays on the chromebooks. Take a look as her fourth grade students analyze and learn from each other.

American Idol Contestant, Jocelyn Baker, had a goal on her road to Hollywood: to spread "joy and excitement".

She is definitely achieving her goal as she brings joy and excitement to Mrs. Hancock's and Mrs. Christianson's class.

Jocelyn Baker is a graduate of Mt. Loafer and she has siblings who are current Mt. Loafer Grizzlies.  Thank you, Jocelyn, for being a great role model and sharing your talent and love for music with us!

VAROOOOM!  It's the Kindy 500 in Kindergarten!  The kindergarten children had a fun-filled day zooming across America to learn all about our country’s National Symbols!  The children came in their own custom designed cars and cruised in luxury to each Historical Site!  Thanks to the many volunteers who helped the children learn such valuable lessons!

Seussville

Dr. Seuss had a great love for children and for reading. The way he used rhyme made his books a great tool for teaching children the basic skills needed to be successful.

Mt. Loafer teachers helped students celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday by reading his books aloud and planning fun classroom activites because at Mt. Loafer we know that reading is fun and important.

We're In It Together

We should all learn how to walk in another person's shoes for a while, or, if you are from Mrs. Gwynn's class, more appropriately, how to ride another person's wheelchair.

While it is true that there can be differences among students, there are also lots of things that are the same.  Mrs. Hancock and Mrs. Gwynn are teaming up to help children learn that all people want to be treated with kindness and respect.
