Sochi has come to Mt. Loafer…or at least the student council is trying to bring it here!  Our student council has planned some fun activities to celebrate the Winter Olympics.  Some of the students have been going to classrooms to share some fun facts about the Olympics and some of the Utah Olympians!  We hope you are all enjoying the exciting events that are happening in Russia!  Thanks to the Student council for their hard work with each class!

The 100th Day of school in Kindergarten was a very special one!  The students were very surprised to see that their donuts grew on their 100th day of school!  The students also made fun hats, badges, and glasses.  They topped it off with 100 treats for everyone.  It was a happy 100th Day for all!

Mrs. Spencer's 6th Grade Class had the privilege of a visit from one of their student’s dad, Staff Sergeant Jeff Tomlinson.  Tugg Tomlinson's dad has been serving in Afghanistan for the past year and just recently returned home.  He shared stories and events that happened while there.  The students enjoyed what he shared with Tugg's class. Thanks, Staff Sergeant Tomlinson!

Josh Weeks; Winner of Ken Garff Bike Drawing!

Reading and gaining a love for reading are critical to a child's success in life.

Mt. Loafer encourages daily reading.  Each grade level sets goals for their students to strive to read every day.  If a student reads 7 days a week they are given 2 slips.  If a students has read 5 days a week they are given 1 slip.  At the conclusion of each term, all slips are entered into a drawing for a bike.

Congratulations Josh Weeks!  Keep on reading!

Healthy Habits in Kindergarten

Submitted by larraine.nelson on

Mrs. Peterson’s kindergarten classes have  been learning all about healthy habits.  They know what is good for their body and how to stay healthy.  Exercise, eating healthy, and getting a good night sleep is important to do every day!    NO SLEEPING IN SCHOOL for these cute kids!

Kindness Counts

Submitted by angela.killian on

We've all been taught it is better to give than to receive and a Mt. Loafer 4th grader put that truth into motion.

Kaily Gull's birthday was in early January and she decided to give the gifts from her birthday to the children at Primary Children's Hospital. Kaily, along with her parents, visited the hospital on Friday, January 17th, to give her presents to the children currently at the hospital.  The hospital uses the donated toys for the play rooms of the hospital.

There's No Day Like a Snow Day!

Submitted by larraine.nelson on

There was plenty of sunshine, blue sky, and laughter on the snow-packed hill behind Mt. Loafer, which made perfect conditions for our Snow Day!  The students earned this special activity because of their good behavior this term!  They enjoyed flying down the hillside, then rested with a cup of hot chocolate and a doughnut.  It was a favorite day for everyone!

Mobile Computer Lab

Submitted by angela.killian on

I would like to extend a huge Thank you to the Mt. Loafer community on behalf of Mt. Loafer students and teachers!  Funds from the Halloween Carnival have been used to purchase a mobile computer lab.    The mobile computer lab will offer teachers-and students-a more flexible approach to learning. Our students are no longer the people our educational system was designed to teach, they are "digital natives." This is having an enormous effect on the ways in which children learn and teachers teach.

Sports Hero Day

Submitted by angela.killian on

Mt. Loafer Elementary sixth graders, and others from various elementary schools in Utah County, gathered together at Brigham Young University on Thursday, January 16th to meet some of their favorite sports heroes.

The children went to different sports stations where they met athletes and played games.  This special day allows all of the kids to meet BYU athletes on a one-on-one basis and hear advice on how they too can become heroes.
