It is an honor to pay tribute to Robyn Kerr with the Crystal Apple Award.  Robyn is a second grade teacher.  She is incredibly deserving of this award in so many ways.  Robyn is an incredible example to everyone.

Robyn is extremely organized. She also teaches her students how to be organized, which is a life skill they will all benefit from.  She is never satisfied with her own teaching.  She is always looking for a better or more exciting way to teach or to improve herself as a teacher.

She cares so much about her students.  She wants every one of them to not only reach their potential, but to exceed it…and enjoy it while they do.  She makes every lesson fun and exciting!  For her students, learning is an awesome journey.  Her students love her and are motivated to learn and achieve. Robyn sets high expectations for her students and she teaches and inspires them to reach and achieve these expectations.  Robyn touches the heart and mind of every student she teaches.  She not only cares about her own students, but she loves and cares about all children.

My son, Josh, has not had the opportunity to have Robyn as a teacher, but he has still been a recipient of Robyn’s love and concern for others.  Robyn has gone the extra mile to show kindness and develop a friendship with Josh.  She takes the time to listen to his stories and she shows interest in his projects.  She talks to him and cares about what he has to say.  She asks him how his day has been and treats him like he is the most special person in the world.  After speaking to Robyn, Josh feels important and valued.  Robyn went to the effort a while back to find out what Josh’s favorite treat was and for Christmas, she gave Josh his very own container of Moose Tracks Ice Cream.  She makes Josh feel like he is the most important student in our school and treats him as if he was truly one of her best friends.  What makes this even more amazing is that Robyn treats every student like this.  She goes the extra mile for everyone.  Every student believes they are Miss Kerr’s favorite.

Not only is Robyn an outstanding teacher, but she is also a wonderful friend.  I have had the opportunity of teaching with her for 10+ years and it has sincerely been a privilege to be her friend and to learn from her. I know my own teaching, as well as the teaching of numerous other teachers, student teachers, cohort students, etc. has benefited and improved greatly because of her example and feedback.  She always has time for a question, for venting, or for a pep talk and she always makes everyone feel like they matter to her.  Robyn inspires those around her, both students and teachers alike, to be their very best.  Her passion and commitment to teaching is the reason why her peers voted her for the Crystal Apple Award.
