Hello, Grizzly Families!
Time is winding down quickly and the last day of school is approaching fast! We would love to have had it end differently, but we hope you know how much we have loved teaching your child and having him/her here at Mt. Loafer. It is certainly a year we will never forget and I hope you have had your child record his/her thoughts and feelings during this history-making year! I can't thank you, our teachers/staff and community enough for the incredible work that has been done! It has taken all of us working together to make your child's education move forward!
Please read the Newsletter very carefully! There are some very important announcements/information!
Registration for the 2020-2021 School Year
Parents, this summer our school district is changing the student information system (SIS) to a new system called I-Campus. You will be receiving an email from Nebo School District explaining what you will need to do to update your information as the system is put into place come mid to late June. This will affect registration and will be different from what we have done in the past.
FOR CURRENT MT. LOAFER FAMILIES:
*Personal information for all current Mt. Loafer students that will be attending Mt. Loafer in the Fall of 2020 will need to be checked and updated. This is called an Annual Update. You will not need to "register" your child if he/she has attended Mt. Loafer You will basically just need to update all information and make sure it is current.
*The Annual Update will open July 6th.
*If you have a child that will be in kindergarten in the Fall of 2020 and you have children that have attended Mt. Loafer and are going to attend Mt. Loafer in the Fall of 2020, you will just need to "add a new student" to the Annual Update for your kindergarten student. There you will be able to add your kindergarten child's information and he/she will be in the system.
*If you have a kindergarten child new to Mt. Loafer (ie-the oldest child or you have just moved here) you will REGISTER your kindergartner as a new student. Your information will then be processed through the district, then sent to Mt. Loafer.
FOR NEW FAMILIES TO MT. LOAFER:
*If you are new to Mt. Loafer, but not new to our district, you will need to update your information and that should trigger the system to put you into Mt. Loafer's boundaries.
*If you are new to Mt. Loafer and our district, you will REGISTER online and your information will then be processed through the district, then sent to Mt. Loafer.
*If your child currently attends Mt. Loafer, your documentation is fine. You do not need to upload your information.
*If you are new to Mt. Loafer (ALL new kindergarten students and new families to Nebo School District) all documentation will need to be uploaded to the new system. Parents do not need to bring in documentation to the school. Parents will be able to take pictures or scan proof of residency, birth certificates, and immunization records and upload it in the I-Campus system.
We will still have a "Registration Day" and we will let you know when that will be. Although everything is done online, we want to be here to assist you if you need help. More information will come about that date.
Chrome Book & Library Book Return
Beginning May 26th, we will be having parents come to the school to return borrowed chrome books, library books and leveled library books. There will be personnel here to help you during the following times: May 26th- May 28th 9:00-12:00. When you return your chromebook and charger we ask that you label them with the provided sheet of information (please click next above for), you may choose to preprint and label the chromebooks for easy drop-off or we will have one of these forms for you to fill out on the day you return your chromebook & charger. We hope to make this a very smooth return for you and your students.
Summer School Bridge Program
Mt. Loafer will be offering a Summer School Bridge Program for math and reading. Classes will be held on Tuesdays & Thursdays, no classes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The program will be offered at Mt. Loafer, during the following weeks:
June 9th – July 9th (5 week session; Tues. Thur. only)
Each session will be 60 minutes.
Session times will be from 9:00-10:00, 10:00-11:00, 11:00-12:00
We will be looking closely at relative data points in each grade level and students who we would love to see attend. If applicable, your student may be recommended for Summer School services in Math and Reading. If recommended for Summer Bridge, your child will participate Tuesday and Thursday for 60 minutes each day. Your child will be assigned a time to attend based on student groupings and needs.
Their time will be split as follows:
30 minutes – Reading (small groups with students of similar needs)
30 minutes – Math (small groups targeting math concepts students need to know)
There will be no homework assigned as part of this Summer Bridge though we strongly encourage all students to continue using i-Ready Math and Reading at home through the Summer.
Please watch for a specific invitation from your child’s teacher to participate in our Summer Bridge Program. You will receive this correspondence before June 1st.
May is Resiliency Month!
Governor Gary Herbert has declared May to be Resiliency Month! Please check the school website for information from the Governor for you to discuss with your families about resiliency. As a school, we focused on resiliency during this school year as we learned how to be a STAR. Our overall message is that we want to help students understand resiliency during challenging situations. We have a public service message, "Wash My Hands Challenge" from the Governor, then I'm including a little video that we watched as a school about resiliency. I hope you will take some time and go over these important messages with your child!
