Walking through the cafeteria at Mt. Loafer Elementary School on Friday, February 10th, a visitor might not have felt smarter than a fifth-grader.

Mt. Loafer Elementary Fifth and Sixth grade students were delighted to have a visit from Steven Haderlie, a chemistry teacher at Springville High School and an adjunct BYU professor. Mr. Haderlie is the grandfather of Madison Mantilla, a sixth grade student in Mr. Applegate's class. Can you imagine what life in school was like a 100 years ago? Many schools were small; often they had only one room. There was no running water and the heat came from a fireplace behind the teacher's desk. Windows were usually high so that the children could not see out and be distracted! We would like to recognize the following students who during the month of January displayed compassion, honesty, trustworthiness, responsibility, optimism, and loyalty in creating a positive school environment. This award is designed to nominate and select students who promote and take pride in Mt. Loafer Elementary School and in themselves. Absent from picture: Brandon Hill, Kira Olson, and Brady Cox.

One person can make a difference in the lives of our children…! Each year Artistic Resource for Teachers and Students (A.R.T.S., Inc.) conducts an extensive search for outstanding Arts-In-Education educators from each of the forty-one school districts throughout the State of Utah.

It is an honor to pay tribute to Robyn Kerr with the Crystal Apple Award. Robyn is a second grade teacher. She is incredibly deserving of this award in so many ways. Robyn is an incredible example to everyone.
Robyn is extremely organized. She also teaches her students how to be organized, which is a life skill they will all benefit from. She is never satisfied with her own teaching. She is always looking for a better or more exciting way to teach or to improve herself as a teacher.
